Create a pinstriped pattern in your buttercream cake, or use the straight edge for a flawless, smooth finish.

Apply the buttercream/frosting/ganache with a spatula or piping bag, smooth with the straight edge and then use the other side to create a perfect pattern. Varied pressure will create different outcomes. Leave the pattern as it is, or then refrigerate or freeze the cake until partially solid, fill the stripes with another coloured buttercream of your choice and then use the smooth edge to scrape away the excess until stripes emerge.
